CERF Benefits from Synergy
NPCG News
cerf.gifOne of the highlights of the Synergy Conference was the Live Auction, emceed by the ever entertaining Tracy Holmes .  It raised over $6000 in conjunction with the Silent Auction, and a heartfelt ‘Thank You' goes out to all of the artists who generously donated their artwork for both events.

The NPCG board felt that part of these proceeds should support art-related organizations, and the first to benefit is the Craft Emergency Relief Fund (CERF).  A donation of $1000 was sent to their organization, which is committed to supporting the careers of professional craft artists throughout the country.  CERF provides emergency relief support, advocacy and business growth programs to help sustain and strengthen artists' careers.

According to Jeanne Kirby, CERF Communications & Events Coordinator, the organization was honored to have been chosen as a recipient.  "A contribution of that size does help enormously", she said. "Many, many thanks to the NPCG for caring about your fellow artists!"

The Wish of 1000 Cranes ~ Polymer Style
Member News

cranes.jpgThe crane has long been a symbol in Asian cultures representing good health, longevity, truth and fidelity. According to ancient Chinese legends, cranes were thought to be "well-behaved like gentlemen, incorruptible and naturally clean and honest." To be compared to a crane ranked among the highest of compliments.

One of the first books on origami was published in the late 1700s in Japan with the title "How to Fold 1,000 Cranes", and it contributed to the popularity of the origami crane. According to Japanese tradition, anyone with the patience and commitment to fold 1,000 paper cranes would be granted their most desired wish, because they exhibited the cranes' loyalty and recreated their beauty.

In our polymer community today there are two noteworthy crane projects in progress...one a wish for peace, and one a wish for health.
